Your pupillary distance is a basic optical measurement which measures the distance between your pupils. This measurement is generally needed when purchasing glasses to ensure that your lenses will be positioned correctly in front of your pupils. Correct placement is important so that you can receive the best corrective vision. To measure it, you can either do it by yourself or with the assistance of a friend. All you need to do is:

1. Position a (millimeter) ruler at your nose bridge.
2. Get your friend to stand in front of you at about an arm’s length away with the ‘0’ reading at the center of your left pupil.
3. Measure the distance between the left and right pupils and…that’s it!

The process is the same if you are measuring your PD by yourself although it may be slightly less accurate. If you need to wear your glasses to do so, you can draw dots on your lenses and then measure the distance between the markings.  Check out our video for more information.
